Technology gap – Pakistan and smart power meters

by Irfan Syed on July 23, 2009

While the world is working on technologies which allow smart power meters to tweet or publish electricity usage via internet, country of my birth -Pakistan- can’t even produce enough electricity. Let alone efficiently bill it.

Last I heard, people still queue up hours in bank lines to pay monthly utility bills. And of course there are still thousands of human beings whose only job is to go home-to-home and read meter readings every month.

Ah. The technology gap is widening so much, so fast.
